Car service and garage website audit: services, prices and slots that Google and AI assistants can read

Car owners ask Google and AI assistants which garage near them can service their model, what a service usually involves and when they can bring the car in. An assistant can only repeat what it can find and read. This page covers what Google says about AI Mode and automated calls, and how to make your own website clear enough to quote.

What Google says AI Mode does for local services

Google’s help page for AI Mode says people can use it to research service costs and find open appointment slots, and lists this example:

“Find local appointments, such as haircuts or auto repair.”

The same page says: “When businesses have limited information available online, Google can make calls on your behalf to gather the details you need.” It describes the feature as available in English to signed-in users over 18, and says users can type “don’t call” if they want Google to search online only (Google Search Help: Use AI Mode to check local availability and pricing). The page does not list which countries the calling part covers, so we don’t claim it is available in India.

What Google says about automated calls to your business

Google’s Business Profile help says it might contact your business by automated call on a customer’s behalf, for example to book an appointment or to confirm the price and availability of products and services. It also says Google will only call when a customer wants one of those things, or when it needs to check your business hours or the status of in-demand inventory. These features are “currently available only in select regions and languages” (Google Business Profile Help: About automated calls and texts from Google).

The same page explains how a verified business can switch these calls on or off under Business Profile settings, Advanced settings, and warns that Google will never ask for payment, card details or passwords on such calls.

What to publish on your garage website

Google’s pages don’t list exactly what it reads before deciding to call. Our recommendation is simply to put the answers a customer would ask for in plain text on your own site:

  • The services you offer (periodic service, AC, brakes, denting and painting, wheel alignment) and the makes or vehicle types you handle.
  • How your pricing works: if you publish prices, say what is included and what can change after inspection. We don’t advise on what to charge.
  • Opening hours, holidays and how to book a slot (form, booking link or email), plus pickup and drop if you offer it.
  • Your full address with PIN code and a map link, the same as on your Business Profile.

AutoRepair structured data and crawler access

schema.org has an AutoRepair type (a kind of AutomotiveBusiness) (schema.org: AutoRepair). Google’s local business documentation says to use the most specific LocalBusiness sub-type possible, and lists name and address as required properties (Google Search Central: Local business structured data). Google’s structured data policies say not to mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page (General structured data guidelines).

OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers” (OpenAI: Overview of OpenAI crawlers). We check that your robots.txt doesn’t block the crawlers you want.

What our audit checks for a garage website

We check whether your services, hours, booking path and address are in readable text; whether your title and main heading name what you do and where; whether AutoRepair structured data is present, valid and matches the page; and whether search and AI crawlers can fetch your pages. You get a prioritised fix list. We don’t guarantee rankings, calls or mentions by any assistant.

Self-check

Your quick website self-check

  1. Each service you offer is listed in text, not only in an image or a PDF.
  2. The page says how pricing works, or links to a price list, with what is included.
  3. Opening hours and holidays match your Google Business Profile.
  4. There is one clear way to book a slot that works on a phone.
  5. Address with PIN code is in text and in AutoRepair structured data.
  6. robots.txt doesn’t block OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot or the other crawlers you want.

FAQ

Will publishing prices stop Google from calling us?

We can’t promise that. Google’s AI Mode help page says Google can call when businesses have limited information online, but it doesn’t list exactly what it checks. Publishing clear information is still useful for customers who read your site.

Is the AI Mode calling feature available in India?

Google’s AI Mode page doesn’t say which countries the calling part covers, and its Business Profile help says automated calls are available only in select regions and languages. We don’t claim it is live in India.

Can we stop Google’s automated calls?

Google’s Business Profile help says a verified business can turn automated calls on or off in Business Profile settings, under Advanced settings, or ask the caller to stop calling.

Do you set up our Google Business Profile or bookings?

No. We audit your website and give you a fix list. Your Business Profile and booking tools stay under your control.
