Hotel and homestay website audit: rooms, rates and policies that Google and AI assistants can read

Travellers ask Google and AI assistants about rooms, prices for their dates, check-in times, parking and pets. An assistant can only repeat what it can find and read, and a guest who clicks through wants to see the room and rate they picked. This page covers what Google says about hotel listings and booking links, and how to make your own website clear enough to quote.

Your Business Profile, Hotel Center and booking links

Google’s starter guide for hotel owners says that when your hotel’s Business Profile is complete, it appears on Google Maps and Search, but without prices. To show nightly rates and booking links, you create a Hotel Center account and integrate your rates and availability (Google Hotel Center: Hotel owners, Step 2).

“Direct integration with Google is currently unavailable due to high demand. To get prices and direct booking links to show next to your hotel information on Google, share your prices with a connectivity partner.”

The same guide says a connectivity partner can be a central reservation system (CRS), an internet booking engine (IBE), a channel manager or a property management system (PMS). If you already use one, ask whether it is integrated with Google. Showing prices or booking links is up to Google and your partner, so we can’t promise inclusion.

What Google asks of the booking page

Google’s best practices for free booking links (Google Hotel Center: Best practices for free booking links) include:

  • keep your name, address and phone number up to date, and keep your Google Business Profile verified and current;
  • send accurate prices, and check that the price in your feed matches the price on your landing page for all users and devices;
  • “Send users directly to the landing page where they can find the room and rate they selected”, and display that room and rate prominently;
  • make sure the page loads in a reasonable time and is fully functional.

Even without booking links, the same rules make a good direct-booking page: one click from a room to its price and the booking step.

Rooms, amenities and policies as text

  1. One section or page per room type: name, occupancy, bed type, size if you know it, amenities, and a clear link to check availability.
  2. Policies on a normal page: check-in and check-out times, cancellation, child and extra-bed rules, pets, parking and ID requirements, written as text.
  3. No tariff-only images or PDFs: if your rates or policies exist only in an image or a downloadable tariff card, crawlers and assistants often can’t read them.
  4. Location details: full address with PIN, how to reach you, and nearby landmarks, written the same way everywhere.
  5. Describe only what you offer: keep amenity lists and photos current, so the page matches what guests find.

Structured data and AI crawler access

Mark up the property with schema.org Hotel or another LodgingBusiness type (schema.org: Hotel). Google’s local business structured data documentation lists address and name as the required properties (Google: local business structured data). Google also says not to mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page (Google structured data guidelines), and that “there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode” beyond normal SEO best practices (Google: AI features and your website).

Check that your robots.txt doesn’t block the crawlers assistants use to read pages. OpenAI, for example, documents OAI-SearchBot (search) separately from GPTBot (training), and each can be allowed or blocked independently (OpenAI crawlers).

What our audit checks on your website

  • Technical SEO basics: title and meta description, headings, HTTPS, mobile viewport, canonical, sitemap, image alt text, page text depth.
  • Mobile page speed: a Lighthouse lab test on throttled mobile (performance score, Largest Contentful Paint, blocking time, layout shift, page weight).
  • AI search readiness: structured data, FAQ markup, llms.txt, and whether robots.txt blocks the crawlers that ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude use to read the pages they cite.
  • Local details: whether your name, address with PIN and contact details are consistent on the page and in your schema.
  • Prioritised fixes: P1 / P2 / P3 in plain English, each with how-to steps.

  6. The booking page loads quickly on a phone.
  7. robots.txt doesn’t block search crawlers you want, such as Googlebot and OAI-SearchBot.

FAQ

Can you get our prices or booking links shown on Google?

No. Google’s hotel owner guide says prices and booking links need a Hotel Center account and, currently, a connectivity partner. We audit your website; we don’t set up Hotel Center or feeds, and showing them is up to Google.

Will this get our property recommended by ChatGPT?

We can’t promise that, and nobody honestly can. We measure the fixable things on your website that make it easier for Google and AI assistants to read and understand it.

Do you need access to our booking engine or channel manager?

No. We only look at your public website. We don’t need passwords or logins.
