Pet clinic website audit: hours, emergency intake and booking details that Google and AI assistants can read

When a pet owner asks Google or ChatGPT for an emergency vet open now in their area, the answer can only use what your site states as text: your hours, whether you take emergencies, the services you offer and how to book. If those facts live only in images, PDFs or social posts, there is little for search engines and assistants to quote. This page covers what Google, schema.org and OpenAI say, and what to put in text on your own website. We don’t comment on treatment quality and we make no outcome claims.

Hours, emergency intake and how to book

Google’s Business Profile help says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local search results, and lists details such as address, hours and business category (Google Business Profile Help: Tips to improve your local ranking). Our recommendation is to make your own site say the same things in plain text:

  • Opening hours for every day you are open, including days you are closed.
  • Whether you take emergencies (and what “emergency” means at your clinic), written as text — not only as an icon.
  • One clear booking or contact route (form, phone or WhatsApp link) that works on a phone.
  • Your clinic address with PIN, written the same way as on your Google Business Profile.

Services and species in plain text

List the services you offer and the species you see (for example dogs, cats, birds) in readable text on your own pages. A homepage slider or PDF brochure is hard for search engines and assistants to quote. State what you do; don’t invent outcomes or success rates. You don’t have to publish prices; if you don’t, say how to get a quote or book a consult.

VeterinaryCare structured data and crawler access

schema.org has a specific type for this business, VeterinaryCare, a sub-type of LocalBusiness (schema.org: VeterinaryCare). Google’s local business documentation says to use the most specific LocalBusiness sub-type possible (Google Search Central: Local business structured data), and its structured data policies say not to mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page (General structured data guidelines).

Google says there are “no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode” beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet (Google Search Central: AI features and your website). OpenAI says sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers” (OpenAI: Overview of OpenAI crawlers). We check that your robots.txt doesn’t block the crawlers you want.

What our audit checks for a pet clinic website

We check whether your hours, emergency intake, services, species, address and booking route are in readable text; whether your title and main heading say what you do and where; whether VeterinaryCare or LocalBusiness structured data is present, valid and matches the page; and whether search and AI crawlers can fetch your pages. You get a prioritised fix list. We don’t guarantee rankings, enquiries or mentions by any assistant, and we don’t advise on veterinary care or treatment quality.
