Project pages as readable text
Each project page (or portfolio entry) should say in words what the images show: the type of work (for example residence, office, kitchen or full-home interiors), the city or locality, the scale (such as 3BHK or sq ft when you choose to publish it), and the services you provided. A gallery of untitled photos is hard for search engines and assistants to quote. You don’t have to publish client names or fees.
Services, studio address, hours and enquiry route
Google’s Business Profile help says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local search results, and lists details such as address, hours and business category (Google Business Profile Help: Tips to improve your local ranking). Our recommendation is to make your own site say the same things in plain text:
- The services you offer (architecture, interior design, turnkey, consultation), written as text.
- Your studio address, or the cities you serve if you work without a walk-in studio, written the same way as on your Business Profile.
- Studio hours, including days you are closed.
- One clear enquiry route (form, email or phone) that works on a phone.
ProfessionalService structured data and crawler access
schema.org has ProfessionalService for professional practices (schema.org: ProfessionalService). For studios whose work sits closer to construction or renovation, HomeAndConstructionBusiness is another LocalBusiness sub-type (schema.org: HomeAndConstructionBusiness). Google’s local business documentation says to use the most specific LocalBusiness sub-type that fits (Google Search Central: Local business structured data), and its structured data policies say not to mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page (General structured data guidelines).
Google says there are “no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode” beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet (Google Search Central: AI features and your website). OpenAI says sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers” (OpenAI: Overview of OpenAI crawlers). We check that your robots.txt doesn’t block the crawlers you want.
What our audit checks for an architecture or interior design website
We check whether your project pages, services, studio address, hours and enquiry route are in readable text; whether your title and main heading say what you do and where; whether ProfessionalService, HomeAndConstructionBusiness or LocalBusiness structured data is present, valid and matches the page; and whether search and AI crawlers can fetch your pages. You get a prioritised fix list. We don’t guarantee rankings, enquiries or mentions by any assistant, and we don’t advise on design quality or registration.
Self-check
Your quick website self-check
- Each project page describes the work in text (type, city or locality, services), not only as untitled images.
- Services you offer are listed in plain text.
- Studio address (or service area) and hours are in text and match your Google Business Profile.
- There is one clear enquiry route that works on a phone.
- ProfessionalService, HomeAndConstructionBusiness or LocalBusiness structured data matches what the page shows.
- robots.txt doesn’t block OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot or the other crawlers you want.
