What Google said about ads in AI Mode
Google’s post “Ads in AI Mode expand to 10 new countries” (Shashi Thakur, 28 October 2026) says: “Now we're scaling ads in AI Mode in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore.” It adds that ads “will be clearly labeled as “Sponsored.”” (Google: Ads in AI Mode expand to 10 new countries).
Our plain reading, matching the line we use in sales conversations: Google has just started showing paid ads inside AI Mode answers in India. The unpaid part of those answers still comes from websites that state their facts clearly, so the cheapest move is making sure your own site does. We don’t say ads are replacing organic results, and we don’t quote click-through rates from Google’s research as our own.
What “Check for me” does
Google’s help page “Use AI Mode to check local availability and pricing” says you can select “Check for me” to let AI Mode help with a request such as researching service costs, finding open appointment slots, or checking stock (Google Search Help: Use AI Mode to check local availability and pricing).
The same page says: “When businesses have limited information available online, Google can make calls on your behalf to gather the details you need.” It lists India among countries for the dining reservations feature only. It does not say which countries the calling part covers, so we don’t claim calling is live in India.
Safe line we use: if your prices, hours and booking steps aren't on your site, AI tools have to guess or ask someone else.
What to publish on your own website
Neither Google page promises that clear facts on your site will stop ads from appearing next to answers, or stop a call. What you control is whether your own site states the basics in text:
- Your business name, services and city or service area.
- How pricing works, or how to get a quote.
- Hours and one clear way to book or enquire that works on a phone.
- Pages that search crawlers can fetch (robots.txt doesn’t block the ones you want).
